a very long exposure, I think it was around 15 minutes or longer in the very early morning.
When it started the lights on the tops of all the buildings were out and the skies were clear.
Towards the middle a storm started to move in, and it hit very shortly after I got the camera back in my bag.
The light on the building to the left of the Sears turned on near the end, and the lights on top of the Sears turned on for maybe the last 30 seconds or so of exposure, barely enough to make a difference, but I think that's what the red on them comes from.

I love it, beautiful. I live there, and I think its absolutly gorgeous at night. specially flying over it :)

Interesting image, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you have captured the lights wonderfully. Gee, that trail of red lights on the right is very intriguing as well. You obviously have a very good camera that can do delay shots like this, and the 15 minutes were worth the time. Nice work!

Any old camera with a B setting and a cable release will do it.
But I guess mine is something special on top of that.

I was also going to add besides New York, atlanta is the most beautiful city I've been to, and I've been to every Major city on the east coast, south of boston.... Which is all of them I think. oh Exclude providence, I've never been there.

No reason to go to Providence.
In my opinion the only city comparable to Chicago is New York.
Nothing else comes close, and I, like you, have been to every major city on the east coast, most of the midwest, and one or two on the west coast.
LA sucks.
Beautiful, but, still sucks.

Awesome picture, I like how vivid the red from the tailights are. But how the sears tower is not parallel to the from of the picture bothers my eyes for some reason.

lol But thats just me. I love cities. I'm going to atlanta to take photos whenever i get enough time.

Yeah, somehow that tilted crop didnt catch my eye at first, I'm fixing it, but I have to start all over on the dodging and dusting with a 70MB file, so it'll be a while.
